What it is:

ROYSTON BLACK TACK is a fast drying (under 5 minutes) rubber-resin base adhesive, carried in petroleum solvents. It is used as a corrosion resistant adhesive for bonding Royston Quick Seal Tape Wrap to steel pipe.

What it does:
BLACK TACK provides a strong bond between Quick Seal Tape Wrap and all of the various surfaces commonly encountered in underground service. It increases adhesion or pressure-sensitive polyethylene tapes.

Where to use it:
ROYSTON BLACK TACK is recommended for use with commercially available pressure sensitive tapes used for corrosion protection of buried piping systems. It is formulated to provide superior performance in its intended use. BLACK TACK is specifically formulated for bonding Quick Seal Tape Wrap. Its suitability with other tape and wraps should be tested prior to use.

How to use it:
Handling Precautions: ROYSTON BLACK TACK is a flammable mixture which should be kept away from heat and open flame. Prohibit welding sparks and smoking. Contains aliphatic and aromatic solvents. Avoid prolonged or repeated breathing of vapors or fumes. Avoid contact with skin. Harmful or fatal if swallowed. If swallowed do not induce vomiting. Call physician immediately. Keep out of reach of children.

Mixing:
The only mixing required is thorough agitation prior to use. This is necessary to insure adequate redispersion.

Surface Preparation: Surfaces should be dry and cleaned of all rust, scale, soil, mud, oil, grease and other contaminants by wire brushing, blasting or other methods. Mil applied coatings and pipe wraps should be dry and free from mud, soil, dust and oil.

Application:
ROYSTON BLACK TACK may be applied by brush, spray or roller without thinning. Brushes my be cleaned in mineral spirits or xylene. Tape applications may be made as soon as the surface is dry to the touch.
Coverage:
Coverage of BLACK TACK on metal surfaces is 308 square feet per gallon at 1 mil dry film thickness. Allowances must be made for rough surfaces and application losses which will reduce coverage.
